Aerobic is an adjective meaning relating to, involving, or requiring free oxygen. It usually refers to or denotes exercise that improves or is intended to improve the efficiency of the body's cardiovascular system in absorbing and transporting oxygen.
Acne bacteria (Propionibacterium) are anaerobic — they cannot survive in the presence of oxygen and therefore are killed by benzoyl peroxide, which penetrates the skin to release free radical oxygen.

Anaerobic is an adjective meaning relating to, involving, or requiring an absence of free oxygen — anerobic bacteria such as the acne bacteria Propionibacterium thrive in the absence of oxygen, common among those with a superficially thickened (inadequately exfoliated) epidermis.
Also describes or denotes an exercise that does not improve or is not intended to improve the efficiency of the body's cardiovascular system in absorbing and transporting oxygen.
