The last time I saw one of these was in Billy Wilder's 1950 film noirSunset Boulevard, a film which brings together elements of horror and black comedy.
Fifty years later the beauty device of a tragic, faded silent movie star trapped in a world of make-believe (Norma Desmond, played by Gloria Swanson), is ready for another closeup.
Films noir are characteristically bleak and Sunset Boulevard is no exception. The opening sequence reveals the film's ending and moreover its narration comes courtesy of a deceased man.
